Greetings!
I would like to illustrate today, just how far apart different retail folks on the Internet can be as they decide to mark up coins and then pretend after the mark up that the coins are
of value to the collector at the price they offer. Case in point:
The 2005 United States Legacy Collection proof set. This set of Coins had a limited production, of less then 100,000 according to one seller and of 50 thousand according to another.( the Mint said 50,000) It really does not matter much. The coins contain silver as all proof sets do( except for the penny and the gold tones dollar) But the silver value at this point matters even less then the limited edition value. ( even though the so called advisers that are trying to sell you this set claim both) OK How much is this set actually worth? Well in the realm of unjust weights and measures, it really depends on your suckerability. The folks at Marketworks.com are offering this set for $399$. WOW what a deal!

Then there is Jeff Smith at "TreasuredStocks.com in Ind. who is graciously offering the set for $299$ Jeff Lets you know that "This rare set has almost doubled in value. Only 50,000 of these sets were produced and were sold out at the Mint within 10 days of issue. I have these sets in stock and ready to ship today. Buy your set now before demand drives prices even higher. "
Then of course there are the coin experts at Jetproofs.com who are saying DITTO with the above and are offering this fine investment for $299$ also, with the marine coin alone being offered separately for $150$ (along with a stamp worth a few cents) So after looking around and seeing folks bring me coins like these and wanting to know how much I will give them for these RARE limited edition SILVER PROOFS I thought it might help to show that these are NOT RARE. 50,000 to 100,000 proofs are NOT a LIMITED PRODUCTION that will effect the ultimate Value. There are several companies including EBAY that have these same coins for as little as $119$ plus shipping. THE US MINT SOLD THEM FOR $135$ and they are notorious for marking stuff up.
Like I said, I have seen these on EBAY for as little as 119 and a few shops for less then 150
look around a bit and find out that the ALL AMERICAN COIN COMPANY in Florida is offering the exact same set for $149$ and to be honest they are on the high side if you are simply wanting a coin. ( NOT UNFAIR JUST A LITTLE HIGH). ( I know a fellow who is selling the set for 135 and I think he will take less if asked nicely.
SO Beware of these deals posing as investments...
